Working with InPost

Yodel is part of the InPost group. As well as our own delivery services, we work closely with InPost UK Limited to provide our customers with a wider choice of delivery options. Where your order involves an InPost service (for example, Locker to Door), Yodel will share the necessary information with InPost so they can provide that service to you. This includes name, contact details (e.g., email address and phone number), delivery address(es) and instructions, and parcel identifiers. InPost acts as a separate data controller for its own services. You can learn more about how InPost handles personal data by visiting their privacy notice.

5. International Data Transfers

From time to time, we may transfer your personal data to members of our group of companies or to third party service providers based outside the UK. Their processing of your personal data will therefore involve a transfer of data outside the UK.

Whenever we transfer your personal data out of the UK, we ensure a similar degree of protection is afforded to it by ensuring that either:

  • we will only transfer your personal data to countries that have been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection for personal data (for example, those in the EEA); or
  • where we transfer personal data to certain service providers located in other countries, (i) we will assess whether that country offers protections for personal data which are essentially equivalent to those offered in the UK; and (ii) we will use specific contractual terms to give personal data appropriate safeguards.

6. How long do we hold your personal data for?

We will retain your personal data only for as long as we have a valid reason to do so. This may include providing our services, meeting our regulatory obligations, or dealing with complaints, disputes and enforcing our agreements.

The length of time we keep your personal data will vary depending on the nature of the personal data and the reason we are obliged to hold it. However, as a general rule, we will not keep your personal data for longer than the period in which a legal claim could be made in relation to the services we provide, which is generally up to 6 years.

When deciding how long to retain personal data, we take into account legal and regulatory requirements, as well as whether we still need the information to achieve the purposes set out in this policy (e.g. to deliver services as requested by you). If we no longer need your data, we will either securely delete it or irreversibly anonymise it so that it can no longer be linked back to you.

7. Your rights

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), you have a number of rights in relation to the personal information we hold about you. These rights are as follows:

  • to be informed about how we use your personal data (which is what this notice is for);
  • to access a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • to require us to correct any inaccuracies in your personal data;
  • where we have sought your consent, to withdraw your consent at any time
  • to ask us not to process your personal data for direct marketing purposes.
  • to restrict our use of your personal data;
  • to object to our use of personal data;
  • to require us to provide a copy of your personal data to others; and
  • to require us to erase your personal data.

There are exceptions to the rights of individuals in relation to their personal data and, in certain circumstances, your rights may be limited. The Information Commissioner’s Office provides more information about data protection rights. If you wish to exercise any of your rights please contact our Data Protection Team at [email protected]

If we receive a request from you to exercise any of the following rights, we may ask you to verify your identity before acting on the request; this is to ensure that your data is protected and kept secure

Right to complain to the Information Commissioner

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (which is the UK’s data protection regulator) about our use of your personal data. For more information, please visit the ICO’s website. We ask that in the first instance you contact us so that we can try to address your concerns directly.
